Those piercing amber eyes steal the viewer's attention immediately. Just peeking over a log - face half visible - the lynx's intent is unknown. Is it curiosity? Animosity? Only the petite lynx knows.
The most striking thing about this photo is how it captures a momentary break from (what seems based on a million cat videos and memes) normal feline companionship to give the audience an opportunity to feel those predator's eyes on them. With the proliferation of zoos and other wildlife facilities, it can be easy to forget the deeply ingrained instincts of those animals mankind looks down upon; as humans we are NOT the only hunters in the world, an animal is only as tame as it chooses to be. I look at this photo and feel awe, intimidation and respect.
